how to properly hold a tennis racquet?
i recently started playing tennis and noticed the pros holding their racquets differently than i do. and i'm not talking about the various grips (e.g., continental, western, etc.).
i naturally grip the racquet with all of my fingers (all fingers close together w/ thumb on top of index finger). however, i noticed that the pros all appear to only apply pressure with their thumb, middle, ring, and pinky since their thumbs rest on top of their middle fingers. it looks like their index finger doesn't apply any pressure (or could apply as much) because it's separate from the rest.
i've tried to grip the racquet like the pros, but it feels unnatural. is there any benefit to holding the racquet like this?
these instructional illustrations even show the thumb resting on the middle finger.

prefer the ones which makes you feel comfortable. however if you really want to imitate th pros, you really have to train and discipline yourself until you get used to the grip you wanted. good luck.
