DiMarzio DP408 Virtual Vintage '54 Pro Strat Pickup Black

DiMarzio DP408 Virtual Vintage '54 Pro Strat Pickup Black

$69.95

The Virtual Vintage 1954 Pro pickup uses the same ground breaking technology as the Area 58 and Area 61 pickups. The 54 Pro replaces the Virtual Vintage 54 and Virtual 2 middle pickups. It has a warm, smoky sound, fattens up when you pick hard, and has a special grade of Alnico 2 magnet to reduce string pull. And like all of the Virtual Vintage models, it's dead quiet. The DP408 pickup is recommended for all positions.Tech Talk: The major difference between the 54 Pro and the Area 61 is in pick attack. The 54 Pro has a fatter, woody tone, and the sound almost seems to compress when picked hard. Blues players favor this type of sound for the way it fattens up solos, particularly in the bridge position. The DP408 pickup is also good in the neck and middle positions to warm up bright-sounding guitars.

Ford transmission swap question- pro's only, no do-it-yourselfer's?

I have a 1985 Ford Ranger 4x4, equipped with the 2.8 v-6 engine, A-4LD auto trans, towing package, with 4.10 gears, (which I will assume is a better version of the A-4LD trans, than would normally be in a non-towing package Ranger)Now, here's what I need to know: Is the bolt pattern, length, and overall hookup on this trans, the same as the A4OD trans found in full size Fords and Mercurys of this vintage???? I have a 1984 full size Mercury sitting behind my workshop, that has a known good A-4OD trans in it. It is a parts car. The A-4LD (towing package 2.8 v-6) trans in the Ranger is weak, on it's way out after all these years. Is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same, between the 5.0(302) V-8, and the 2.8 V-6???Will this trans bolt up? I wouldn't want to roll around in the snow right now, jacking up the parts car, to remove the trans, if it is not going to fit....please, only those of you who have specific parts swap knowledge need answer this question.

It will not bolt up. The bellhousing bolt pattern is most decidedly different between a Cologne V6 and a Windsor V8. The length may be the same, but the most difficulty you will have is getting the AOD to mount up with the transfer case, which will be near impossible without the correct tailshaft housing, which is not available since the AOD never was hooked up to the Ranger/Bronco II transfer cases. My suggestion would be to either get a rebuilt or rebuild the A4LD, with quality parts (had mine done by my dad's high school buddy at cost, and was still almost $1500), or swap it out for a 5 speed, or sell the truck for parts. Most of the internals of the A4LD will swap out with the later versions that were behind the 4.0 V6.

You could always pull the 302 and AOD out of that parts car and put both of them in the ranger. Then you could find a transfer case and tranny tailshaft out of a AOD equipped Bronco or F-series pickup, then just get your driveshafts altered for the new yoke size and shaft lengths. V8 power in your Ranger 4x4, just like they should have been from the start.
