Tennis Training Equipment
tennis training?

I just started tennis and I want to get better faster, as I am a beginner and everyone else is not. Does anyone know of any ways I can get more in shape without using equipment and have any tecniques I could use? Thank you!

You cannot get into the best tennis condition without doing strength training, which involves using "equipment"---specifically, weights.

Strength training is as important for tennis as the endurance training you get from running or doing other cardiovascular activity.

You will not be able to get better faster, so if that is what you are aiming for, you are setting yourself up for nothing but disappointment and frustration.

There is no quick, easy, shortcut way to develop your game. It has to develop and evolve naturally at its own pace, and that takes time. Lots of practice will help your game along, but there is no rapid way to improvement.

Movement Training for Tennis: Move Like an Athlete (DVD)

$29.99

With John Officer, US Naval Academy Head Tennis CoachTennis as a sport has attracted players who have focused solely on that pursuit without developing all around athletic skills. The innate athletic ability of many of our players is questionable due to the specific focus on tennis. There are various athletic moves on a tennis court which can be taught. The current movement training involves a series of exercises designed to improve explosiveness, agility, balance, and endurance. The exercises are done separately from hitting a tennis ball. This tape will show all the athletic moves for each individual stroke on the tennis court. The key for athletic movement is to understand how to fuse the patterns with the strokes rather than simply isolating training. The goal is to move like a top flight athlete.46 minutes. 2004.

How can players set themselves up to hit perfect returns like the pros? Let Jack Groppel, Lynne Rolley, Stan Smith, and Nick Saviano show you in Movement Training for Tennis.Developed through the expertise of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Sport Science Committee, this video presents a progression of drills to help players at any level add explosive movement to their game. World-renowned tennis coach Dr. Jack Groppel enlists the aid of USTA tennis experts to show coaches, instructors, and players how reaction time and movement time result in explosive speed. This concept involves the player’s seeing the ball off the opponent’s racket (reaction time), adding an immediate "split-step" toward the ball (movement time), and completing the execution of the shot with a rapid release of energy (explosive movement). In Part I of this video, players start off with warm-up drills to prevent injury. Next, there’s a progression of sport-specific drills designed to help players improve shot anticipation, initial take-off, footwork, body position, and recovery time after hitting the shot. Players will progress from short speed drills to more complex drills that incorporate lateral and horizontal movements. In Part II, the unique sliding techniques required to play effectively on clay is demonstrated. Players will learn how to step into the slide before executing the stroke, how to recover after the shot, and how to maintain balance throughout.Movement Training for Tennis is a valuable tool in helping players use movement to stay on top of their opponents’ shots during match play and get the winning edge.About the AuthorThe United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the governing body for tennis in the United States. The USTA’s membership consists of more than 500,000 individuals and nearly 6,500 organizations, including schools, park and recreation departments or community tennis associations, and tennis clubs. The USTA is widely known as the owner and operator of the U.S. Open Championships, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments in worldwide tennis competition. The Tennis Lesson

Alright, practice methods?

Okay! My friend and I have decided to take tennis in the upcoming school year, since the high school has that sport. (Yes, we're gonna be freshmen! x3) Anyways, we're just about beginners flat. We just decided to buy equipment a few months ago and we've been trying to practice a lot since. My mom can only take us to the courts once every couple of weeks, though.

Anyways, are there any good training methods besides the courts? I can't really use a wall since the road on the side of my house is pretty rocky..There's a building across the street that I can use when the business is closed, but there are big metal bars and vines on the wall. Any help here?

Also, what are some things I can do to build up stamina, speed and such? (Yeah, I'm not the smartest person around..)
Thank you so much in advance~~

okay well you can't just go out there with a racket and attempt to play so i'll give you some tips.

-always turn your body when you swing and don't just stick your racket out in front of you
-the only to to stick your racket straight up in the air and hit it is if you're in the front and spiking it down
-you need to learn all the rules, scoring, and terms because it's complicated at first
-don't hit rainbow shots that shoot way into the air, you need to hit hard and make them just slide over the net
-always stay on the balls of your feet and if you have to run up for a shot then get back fast because it's easier to get forward fast than backward
-always get your racket back in time and follow through so that ball doesn't go off the court
-for serves you must stay behind the line on the outside of the court and serve to the rectangular box on the other side of the net on the opposite side you are on so work on serves a lot

well that's about all i can think of right now so i hope i helped =)
