A simple technique for a backhand?

Okay, been playing tennis for about 3 years. And tennis season is coming up for high school. I took it serious this past summer and increased my forehands performance ten folds. But I seemed to not have improved my backhand. In fact, i think its gotten worse. I simply cant do one without it going out of the fence, or landing 2 feet in front of me. I think this occurred simply because I avoided backhands. I want to know a simple technique to use to improve it. I don't want something too complex and super competitive. I currently try a one handed, and i don't have much luck. So please, it'd appreciate it.

I am a USPTA teaching pro and owner of TopspinSports.com. You are absolutely right...your backhand is feels weaker because you have been avoiding it. Good news is that your forehand is that much better!

First, you need to find the proper way to hit the backhand, then you need to play catch up by "avoiding" your forehand.

From a personal standpoint, the two handed backhand is much easier shot, if you are struggling with a 1 hander, you might want to try a two handed backhand. All you need to know for the two handed backhand is that it is more like a golf swing than anything else. Another way of explaining it to make sure your racket head it pointed towards the ground when you swing. I wish I could explain better by typing but it's not always easy.
