Tennis Shorts Youth
should I take a job offer in Boston?
Born and raised in LA and moved to Silicon Valley as an adult. In short, my only experience with snow is the Lake Tahoe ski trips during winters. Been to Boston once for the interview and the humidity almost knocked me dead. Question is, as a 50 year old person who's never experience east coast winter (or the humid summers) make a new life in Boston and adopt? I love outdoor activities and hiking, tennis, biking, ... is a part of my daily life. Job is a good opportunity and I am not sure if a 50 year old engineer can find something in Silicon Valley where youth is valued more than "experience".
I live in San Jose' CA and have been to Boston on numerous occasion on business. As far as being laid back, Boston is no more laid back than Silicon Valley. If anything, Silicon Valley is more cut throat than Boston. California is a big place so it is very difficult to generalize California. Malibu is very laid back but Silicon Valley is not. And the weather in Boston is nothing short of torturous to a native Californians like us. Do you remember ever checking the weather to plan outdoor activities with friends? - such as hiking, biking, ... They do in Boston. That completely freaked me out. And the humidity is only unbearable if you are not from East Coast. It'll be torturous for people like us. In short, it is a MAJOR lifestyle change. It takes a special person to move from mild Silicon Valley weather to Boston. Why do you think there are so many East Coast Transplants here in the bay area? When the A's play the Red Sox, Red Sox have the home field advantage because of all those transplants. You won't see that reversal at the Fenway. Very few Californians choose to move to Boston unless they absolutely have to. On the positive side, I absolutely love the public transit and the subway. It puts our BART and CalTrain to shame. Also, the housing prices are about 20 to 30% cheaper in Boston than Silicon Valley. But I don't believe rentals are any cheaper. Think of Boston as San Francisco with snow, humidity, cheaper housing, and better public transit. If you can deal with that, I say go for it! Boston is a great place if you handle the "environment".

How can we encourage India's youth to achieve excellence in sports?
In sports, character, value, physical and mental strength are all challenged in a short span of time. Sports can tell us a lot about ourselves as individuals and as a society. Yet, apart from a fanatic obsession with Cricket, we have very little to show for our passion in sports. While there is certainly better infrastructure available today, sport is not a popular part of Indian culture. Instead of joining sports teams or athletic games, many children are spending countless hours in front of TV screens and video games.
Since its Independence, India has won only 4 individual Olympic medals (K.D. Jhadav for Wrestling, K. Malleshwari for weightlifting, R. Rathore for shooting and yours truly for tennis). We won a hockey gold way back in 1980! Currently we are ranked a lowly 157 in world football. Our excellence in swimming is limited to the SAF Games.
Is something missing in our strength as a nation? How do we address this issue?
