Tennis Rackets Head Intelligence
Is it okay to use a oversized racket for a one handed backhand?
I started playing tennis with a two-handed backhand with an oversized racket. I then tried a one handed backhand to improve my volleys and I saw that I'm more comfortable with my one handed backhand. Is it ok to use an oversize? And are there any tips to use the oversize (in any way) as an advantage. (also, what are the disadvantages?). My racket is a Head Intelligence OS
Yes, it's OK. An oversize racket gives you more power in comparison to a midsize (roughly 90-95 square inches) and a midplus (98-102).
It also provides more margin of error for when the ball is not struck directly in the sweet spot. In a smaller headsize racket, these balls will shank off. However, if hitting the ball in the center of the racket is not a problem, then a smaller head size gives you more control (less power as well, but that's not an issue if the player generates the power).
Also, pay attention to the string pattern and tension (open string pattern and lose tension also give more power and less control).
To give you a basis of comparison, Federer uses a 90 square inch racquet with a really tight tension and string pattern. But then again, he is Roger Federer.
