here is a poem about the rain....please leave comments.?
title-rain
The rain stung me like little wet bees,
so much wetness, makes me wanna sneeze.
two more blocks till i get home,
and only because of this, am i writing this poem.
i have to be careful or i'll slip,
i already went down and bit my lip.
trying to cover my head with my jacket,
and as i do i look and there lies on the road a tennis racket.
i would pick it up, but it starts to pour harder,
when i get home i'm gonna raid the larder.
i start to run, and splash into a puddle,
but i don't wanna get to wet or it will make the situation at home a muddle.
i'm getting close, i can see the house,
i have to hurry or i'll ruin my blouse.
i made it, i'm home, i'm here!
funny how once i got home everything outside was all clear.
no.lol. i don't live in england--(to who ever said it).
For one thing, I am inclined to agree with the person who said you try too hard at rhyming. On the other hand, I disagree with anyone who says poetry should not rhyme. It happens to be the current trend, but I reject the idea.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with rhyming, in and of itself. The trick is to make it work for you instead of against you. And I think it is beyond me to try to tell you or anyone else HOW to make that happen. I think I have feel for it, but I don't know how to put it into words.
Your poem is very descriptive, to the extent that I could easily visualize the scene. However, I think it would work better for you if you used imagery or similes to convey the scene(s) instead of explicit descriptions. For example, "like walking through a waterfall" or "house barely visible through the torrent."
Overall, I like your poem; I like its tone, pleasant -- and even a wee bit ironic with that last line, but also maybe a little too trite (last line, that is).
Keep practicing, that is how you improve.
