Can someone help me with my tennis grip?
Hi, I'm an aspiring tennis player who's looking for a little help with his grip. I know the different grips, (eastern, semi-western, western, and continental) but there is one thing I m confused about. When I position my hand on the racket, is the the butt-cap supposed to be closer to my wrist bone, or above it and parallel with the base of my thumb? I feel more comfortable with the cap parallel with my thumb. Does it really matter?
I'm actually a little confused on your description x] But I can tell you how I hold it: I use a semi-western and I hold it low relative to other players - the cap is 2/3 down from my palm or when my pinky wraps around the cap, it comes off a bit(this allows for less control but more spin, so my friend says and he apparently went pro). For the most part, how comfortable you feel with the grip is what matters. If you hold your racket, your hand should be slanted(not at a right angle, it's not a bat) and loose around the handle.
just remember, whatever is comfortable.
*** so I just realized what you meant: if you choke your handle, your buttcap will be below your hand, but you should not hit that as it doesn't allow you to create as much spin on the ball.

Differences in Eastern Grip for tennis.
grip techniques in tennis?
well iv been playing tennis very occasionally for years and just for fun but now im really determined to improve and willing to paractice loads.
but the thing is that i only found out about the different grips now (doh! >.<) and realosed iv only ever played with an Eastern grip. despite this my serves have been quite decent - not enough to get aces though.
well now im trying to adapt to the continental grip and finding it very awkward and difficult. but im really confused about the advantages of this grip. i mean it is supposed to be used for both, forehand and backhand slices as well but surely a backhand grip is more beneficial for a forehand slice and a (semi) western more beneficial for a backhand slice.
also, surely an Eastern grip should be the neutral grip for tennis instead of the Continental grip as the racket is not tilted in this grip and the Continental grip does tilt the racket head slightly.
please help - im really confused :S
I'd honestly not question it. It is obviously better as that's what all the professionals use.
Western grip for serves allow you to get over the ball to give it some topspin.
