How to get a powerful forehand?

The other day I was playing a tennis match, and the other kids I was playing against somehow could hit the ball amazingly fast even when we were doing warm up strokes, I mean they was pretty much no racket speed. Not only was it very fast but when it hit the ground it pretty much doubled in pace, im not sure if it was topspin what did that because the ball didn't whiz and loop it just went low and fast after the bounce, we where playing on astroturf btw. ps don't suggest technique because I do the windshield wiper forehand and split step, uncoiling forehand, leg bend and shoulder turn. Anyway what im basically asking is how they could hit the ball so fast.

actually, if you use the windshield wiper forehand that could be your problem. if you are not very muscular and if you don't accelerate across your body enough, you might be getting too much spin and not enough power the windshield wiper forehand is mainly for spin.i used to use the windshield wiper technique and i had extreme spin and no enough power. if you want to hit harder just continue following through forward and then follow through over your shoulder.

the kid you were playing against probably didn't hit very much spin if it went low and fast. shots like that are very low-percentage tennis and very difficult to hit consistently. i suggest that you don't brush up and get as much topspin on times you want to hit the ball harder. just aim shorter in the court and rip through the ball. hope this helps!!!!

Fast and Furious Tennis: Advanced Movement Techniques (DVD)

$29.99

With Chris Russell,University of Washington Associate Head Men's Tennis CoachCoach Russell presents drills for developing the skills of explosive court movements and angle coverage to improve position on the ball. His main focus is the 'big hop', a move that expands explosiveness and court coverage. The 'big hop' is a great tool when returning the second serve. It also takes time away from the server and reduces the chance of error. This technique is also presented as a valuable strategy in doubles play. On-court players demonstrate resetting offensive position on the volley. Russell also covers the specialized forehand, which allows the player time to get positioned on top of the ball. Other movement techniques covered include the 'dipper', the 'waddle', the 'sharpie' and chasing the ball. Russell also analyzes the curve of the ball on volley shots. The proper curve makes it very difficult for opponents to hit effective return shots. This is an excellent training tool for tennis players serious about taking it to the next level! 46 minutes. 2007.

How to Hit A Forehand Slash in Tennis-4 Smooth Steps

The forehand slice is amply popular in the game of Tennis. This move is on average used to hit the ball diagonally over the net. The forehand maneuver refers to hitting the ball when your forearm is facing the net. When the ball is on the side of your body grasping the racket (right side if you are right handed, left side if you are left handed) you will be using the forehand. To accomplish a perfect forehand slash, follow these steps:

Step 1: Get prepared and get in position. If you know the ball is going to your good side, adjust to hit a forehand. First, side step (or shuffle) over to the ball. At this point your body should be facing the net, but bear in mind to keep your eyes on the ball.

Step 2: Open up your stance. This is the part where you need to rotate yourself sideways. To do this, turn your backfoot so it is parallel with the baseline and the net. At the same time, take a small step forward with your other foot (this foot will be your left if you are right handed, or your right foot if you are left handed). Bend your knees and prepare for the ball to enter into your hitting range.

Step 3: Make contact with the ball. This step should happen less than a couple seconds after the second step. Your swing of the racket should follow your step forward, causing the whole process to be a single, fluent motion.  Your racket should follow an upside down arc pattern. The slice should start up high about shoulder height, swing down to below the waist, and then be traveling upwards again when it makes contact with the ball. Topspin is your goal when playing Tennis.

Step 4: Follow through. After the contact is made, make sure you follow through with a complete stroke. Do not simply make contact with the ball and then stop. Rather, keep your arm advancing until the stroke is completed, and then prepare yourself for the ball to be returned. Great job, you completed a forehand stroke!
