Tennis Forehand Grip Types

Tennis forehand grips?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of forehand tennis grip? Also, which grip suits which type of tennis player?

it is rather confusing which grip u should use. each has it's advantages and disadvantages. full westerns or semi western grips are great for topspins and high bouncing balls. below the knees shots u will need to 'whip' up the racket head to generate enough spin and height for the ball to clear the net. against slice shots again you would need great racket head speed and 'whip' to hit the ball over the net.

continental grips and eastern grips are good for hitting flatter shots. high bouncing shots are harder to hit coz the racket face tend to open up a bit more on contact. this grip are good for hitting against slice or lower bouncing shots.
its a bit difficult for users of this grip to hit topspin shots unless u use your wrist upon contact .

overall, it is easier for players who are new to tennis to start with continental grips coz it gives them more flexibility on forehands and volleys.
as they develop and get stronger, semi western grips should be taught to them as they would want to hit with more topspin to have a greater margin of error without much mush loss of power. players with this grip must be encouraged to drive through the ball upon contact to maximize depth amd spin.

Butterfly Penhold Jian Table Tennis Paddle

Butterfly Penhold Jian Table Tennis Paddle

$24.5

Suitable for play close-to-the-table. Ideal first racket due to its good spin and superb control. The backside is painted black making the racket legal for tournament play.Table tennis is widely popular in Asia. It is as popular as baseball, football and basketball are in North America. Traditionally, most players from Asia hold the racket as if they were writing with a pen, hence the name, "penhold".A penhold racket is assembled slightly different than a shakehand racket in the following ways. It features rubber on only one side of the racket as a penhold player will traditionally use the same side of the racket to execute both a forehand as well as a backhand shot. Chinese penhold rackets look similar to the shakehand racket, but with a shorter handle. Japanese style rackets offer a slightly longer handle than a Chinese style handle and will feature cork mounted on top of the handle as well as on the backhand side of the blade for added comfort.A penhold racket is better suited for a penhold style player for the following reasons: Having rubber on only one side of the racket significantly reduces the weight of the racket. There is a gap above the handle where the fingers rest offering a more comfortable grip. The racket head is slightly wider and/or elongated compared to the head of a shakehand racket, offering an even weight distribution.Surface: InvertedSponge: 1.5mm AddoySpeed: 55 Spin: 35 Control: 100NOTE:The above item replaces this Butterfly Racket: MKP-8290 TashikaExtend the life of your paddle with the Butterfly Table Tennis Paddle Care Kit.You may also be interested in Table Tennis Balls.

Fastest Way to Improve Tennis Backhand

What type of serve would be best for me to work on?

Hello. I've been playing high school tennis for a year now, and now that the season is over I have time to work on my fundamentals. One of my weak points is my second serve (pretty much just dumping the ball in). My current first serve is a slice type serve that curves a little bit to my left. My second serve can either be a dump in, or I'll do my first serve motion, except with added top-spin. Both use a continental grip (standard forehand grip).

I have all summer to work on a new serve. Do you guys have any suggestions? I'm entering college in the fall, and I'll probably just be playing intramural. I have one year experience. Open to all suggestions. Thanks guys.

(additional details, if this helps anyone)
strong topspin forehand
mediocre slice backhand
poor topspin backhand
mediocre volleys
strong topspin lobs
mediocre speed

You should try to work on adding more topspin; not only to your second serve but your first as well. You will find that it makes it a lot easier to keep the ball in the box and you will be able to swing harder at the ball without worrying about it going out. I'm sure if you develop good topspin on your serve, you will see a dramatic decrease in double faults. Don't just use it on your second serve though, if you use it often on your first serve, you will forego the need to even hit a second serve. One thing many people don't realize in tennis is the importance of first serve percentage. If you watch the pros on TV, like the Bryan brothers, there are many matches where they never lose a point that they got the first serve in. Work on a good topspin serve and it will make winning matches much easier for you.
