Tennis Ball Machine Drills

How to Become the Perfect Tennis Counter Puncher?
I have been playing tennis since I was 7 and have developed a counter puncher style of play. I tend to hit consistent shots and play defensively. I normally rally with players until they miss or lure them into net only to lob them or pass them. I've become quite good at this but I have an important high school tennis match coming up and I want to beat a tennis player that is legitimately much better than me skill and shot wise.
My opponent has a fast and fairly consistent serve that is very returnable. He has a solid forehand that leads to errors but can also put away balls in the corners. His backhand is weak but he tends to "push" the ball in order to keep the point going. His volley skills are weak but his overhead is killer. He is a headcase but is mentally solid when he develops a lead.
What strategy should I implement in order to beat my opponent? I have my own tennis ball machine...what drills should I practice in order to prepare against him? Any help?
I don't know about drills, but from what you say you should certainly work on his backhand, and hit to the forehand only when you get him out of position. If his volley is weak, you may be able to draw him in with short balls to his backhand and then try to pass him. Your defensive style sounds like it might work unless he is just too good. Most players will eventually make errors if you just keep hitting deep balls to them.
Actually, the best strategy that I can think or is to just win the last point. You will never lose.

21st Century Tennis Drills (DVD) $29.99 With Bill Mountford, USTA National Tennis Center Director of Tennis (NTC), US Open Director of Player Operations, USPTA Eastern Division President, Founder of the HEAD Junior Tennis Academy (NJ), USTA.com contributor ("Tips of the Week" & "Ask Bill" columns)Bill Mountford demonstrates an innovative way to teach the game that focuses less on structured technique and more on athletic movement--what he calls "guided discovery" -- through playing the game. Mountford demonstrates this coaching style through a series of "play-based" drills that can be used to improve overall performance and improve specific skill areas. Each drill is competitive and fast-paced enough to condition players during each practice. Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet. And Tristessa by Kerouac. And the collected letters of Neal Cassady. And The Paris Review Interviews, Vol. IV. Bad habit of reading many things at once. And The New Yorker, which comes too often. Like a tennis ball machine. They shoot another one at me as soon as I finish the last 5 I had backed up. I’m drowning in the NYer. I don’t give a damn about like 40% of each issue (in a “good” issue) but feel compelled to read them cover to cover.
