Team Line Tennis i suck at tennis and need serious help?
my mom signed me up for this tennis thing (it's like for an hour every day all summer) and i am awful!! this wouldn't be as much of a problem if i was playing with people who were about the same or a little better than me, but i'm with these insanely awesome people who are mostly on the tennis team and really know what they're doing! it's so embarassing to play with these guys it's not even funny (well, it kinda is, but whatever). i actually used to be good, and was asked to be on the high school team when i was in 6th grade (which i declined, since i play soccer and that monopolizes all the time i would dedicate to sports) but i seem to have lost my talent, or maybe forgotten it.
bottom line:
i just need some advice on how to instantly improve my game (i.e. how to hold the racket, how to hit the ball), because right now the only way for my skill to go is up.
Tennis isn't a game that you'll instantly get better at.
I would suggest you ask one of the others to guide you, or get a private instructor, or join a nightly semi-private tennis club, they usually have group lessons in the evening.
I certainly dont' want to discourage you from the game. Perhaps you can try one aspect of your game first, and move from there. I suggest you try improving your serve. It is the most spectacular move in tennis (other than maybe a smash), but it's surprisingly the easiest to improve at.
The toss is the most important aspect; you need a consistant toss; try tossing it blindfolding, and hitting the ball. It sounds silly, but the goal isn't to get it into the box, but rather just to hit it. Once you get the toss down; you can move on to other things. You'll notice with a longer windup, you'll have a more power, but at times inconsistant serve. Keep the longer serve, you'll have better racquet speed, and a faster serve (I realize this is personal opinion...everyone likes their serve a certain way).
Use an Eastern grip for your serve (imagine you are shaking someone's hand) it may be odd at first, but you'll get use to it. What it does, is it gives you the option to give and vary the spin on your first and second serve. The more spin, the more control you have of bringing the ball down.
Good luck (this is my first tennis post, I hope it's helpful)

College Tennis Keeping an Eye for Scholarship
College sports has an influence and popularity in the U.S unlike in any other country. A college sports scholarship is a form of in which schools admit applicants based on their athletic abilities. The applicants are expected to perform well on the school team, and at the same time maintain a fair academic standing. Students talented in tennis, for instance, may apply for a scholarship during college tennis recruiting.
In a competition, the player should track the ball, instead of trying to keep his eyes on it. As the ball travels toward the player it becomes a blur when it is about 5 or 6 feet away. Vision then typically remains focused at that point of 5 feet away. A skilled player can maintain the mental image of a tennis stroke, anticipating the path of the ball will be, based on projectile motion of the shot. Less able players instead will try to keep their eyes fixed on the ball: going so far as rotating their heads to maintain visual contact as the ball approaches. This would be useless as the ball would become a blur anyway. Moreover, a bad habit of head rotation will lead to greater difficulty of constructing a proper execution of a shot
It is important for tennis players to use gravity to the utmost. Hitting the ball straight out from the racket or even to hit up when serving is much better than trying to hit down. Moreover, it is much easier to develop service skills by hitting the ball beyond the service line, and then focusing on keeping them within the lines, instead of trying to hit serves into the net and then trying to work on getting them over.
All the financial burdens involved in pursuing a college degree can prove daunting, especially with the current economic crisis. Thus many high school tennis athletes are hoping to get noticed during college tennis recruiting. The Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both student tennis athletes and coaches involved in the process of college tennis recruiting. There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact. D1Athletes is an online community wherein high school tennis athletes and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need during college tennis recruiting. D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.
