Synthetic Tennis Court Surfaces
what is the quickest surface to play soccer/football on?

i am doing an experiment on different surfaces to play soccer/football on where i must: though various calculations, determine the speed, acceleration and other characteristics of a pendulum propelled football (soccer ball), which travels two meters on various surfaces. i know how to find speed and acceleration i just need to know which surface out of the following u think will be the fastest and WHY? : smooth concrete, rough road surface, Lino, Wooden floor boards, synthetic cricket pitch. grass, that playground surface stuff and tennis court the fake stuff.thanks heaps!

Out of those, linoleum first and then wooden floor boards would by my guess. These surfaces woud be the smoothest of those listed, and therefore provide less friction on the ball (assuming its rolling, not being kicked or bouncing)

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A tennis court is where the game of tennis is played. It is a firm rectangular surface with a low net stretched across the center. The same surface can be used to play both doubles and singles. Tennis is played on a rectangular flat surface, usually of grass, clay, concrete (hard court) or a synthetic suspended court. The court is 78 feet (23.78 m) long, 39 feet on a side. Its width is 27 feet (8.23 m) for singles matches and 36 feet (10.97 m) for doubles matches. The service line is 21 feet from the net. Additional clear space around the court is needed in order for players to reach overrun balls for a total of 60 feet (18.3 m) wide and 120 feet (36.7 m) long. A net is stretched across the full width of the court, parallel with the baselines, dividing it into two equal ends. The net is 3 feet 6 inches (1.07 m) high at the posts, and 3 feet (0.914 m) high in the center. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Should the USTA promote a new synthetic surface similiar to grass?

The grass courts of Wimbledon added more of the serve-and volley component to the game to compliment the baseline slug and run side to side style that dominates the circuit presently.

Do any of you think that this would improve interest in tennis?

How about a turf similiar to what is installed in football stadiums. This could be adapted to Wimbledon type specifications?

I think the US hard courts are the best in the ATP and it's known as an amazing all-around court. It's the mid-point between clay and grass so I don't think that should be changed.

As far as "new synthetic surfaces" go there actually already are courts with synthetic grass. Desso Sport Systems makes an artificial turf that some tennis clubs use now. The only problem is that the quality of tennis wouldn't be as good on them.

You typically practice on a court surface months in advance (i.e. clay court seasons for example). I don't think you could hold a Grand Slam on the surface until it's much more common and all players have access to it.
