Problems with cashel soft saddle?
I have been using my Cashel soft saddle for a year now. I love riding in it, and i find it very comfortable. lately my horse has had some thick flaky skin and hair loss on a small area of her spine. Could this be caused by the un breathable material of the Cashel saddle mixed with the uneven distribution of my weight?
It could definitely be caused by the saddle. The Soft Saddles don't have panels with a channel between them, so the saddle puts pressure directly on the spinous process - NOT a good thing. If you want to use a treeless saddle, look for one that has some sort of panels with a channel between them (Barefoot and Star Trekker are two).

What is the best type of dog crate to buy (metal, plastic, or soft foldable)?
I want something breathable that won't get too hot, but the metal ones are heavy. Any tips?
Plastic airline kennel-type crates really are the cheapest and most durable kind. They are easy enough to clean, and have plenty of ventilation. They also provide a very "den-like" feel to a dog, and many dogs like that feeling of security.
I use wire/metal crates for traveling in the car because they provide the best ventilation (my dogs have lots of coat, and get warm easily!), but for in the house, I still like the plastic crates the best.
I wouldn't buy a soft-sided crate unless you knew for sure that the dog wouldn't try to get out. They're expensive and easy to destroy!
