how do you load shooting line in your fly reel directly to backing or to your existing fly line?

i also want to make shooting heads from Cortland CL 13 (lead core) how do you now what size you need? the weight is 13 grains per foot i think. thanks for helping. and how you connect this to to your line and to leader?

Shooting heads are attached to shooting line. The most popular method is to attach 100 yards+/- of "Amnesia" 30# to the dacron backing and attach the head to this supple mono filament. I have better results using "Sufix Elite" for shooting line. It tangles less than Amnesia. Other fellows like to use a cheap level fly line for shooting line. I recommend adding loops to the ends of home made heads to make it easier to switch them for different situations.

Most fly fishers have difficulty casting CL 13. Most guys say "chuck and duck".

I carry 2, 3, and 4 foot pieces of CL13 with loops to add weight if wanted.

Size the shooting head weight to your rod's weight rating. It is usually safe to go one or two line weights over the rod rating. These suggestions are starting points. Cast your rod to see what is comfortable for you.

170 grains for a 5 weight rod
200 grains for a 6 weight rod
250 grains for a 7 weight rod
300 grains for a 8 weight rod

Dan's website has instructions some where for adding loops.

Irish Guitar Reel Lead the Knave/Bunker Hill

which hollywood actor made the most movies from silents thru talkies?

I know HENRY B WALTHALL made over three hundred fifty movies starting in new york and was one of the first actors to go west to L.A.
He was director D.W. GRIFFITH'S favorite leading man and was the first in many categories .such as being the lead in the first multi reel and largest movie .Birth of a Nation , he was first actor to wear makeup on screen (max factors start)
was in the first oscar winning movie, wings. was the presenter at d.w. griffiths life time academy award.was one of the first actors to start his own movie company,he started several other big names in moviedom including western actor Harry carey sr. . Henry b.did his own horseback riding and stunts,
of course he was one of the very few (only?) actors to successfully make the leap from silent movies to the talkies.. he was a well known stage actor before starting in movies and was one of the only actors who had a speaking voice fostered by stage work he knew how to emote from his silent movie time wordlessly.

I dont know...how many did Charlie Chaplin make?

  • Wayne,

This was a very thought-provoking post, particularly because I specialize in marketing activities for Sage business software VARs. I agree with what you say about FindAccounting although I hear the occasional success some partners have using it. For me, the jury is still out on that lead gen source.

I still think SEO is the way to go as it allows you to be found when a given prospect is searching for solution providers. Google AdWords, as you so aptly pointed out, is a mixed bag; while it may provide leads it's head-scratchingly odd how the ad budget has a way of just disappearing without any real leads coming through. At least that's been my experience with using AdWords to generate leads for ERP systems. Others may have had more luck.

Putting your newsletter in the hands of as many businesses as possible is another good approach. People rarely look down upon free information, particularly if it's a value-add and reliable.

For me, the bottom-line is that a VAR has to spend money to find new business. Exactly how it's done, where and how much is spent, obviously varies. Whether VARs decide to duke it out with a bunch of other hungry VARs hot on discounting their software is a choice some are willing to make. In the end, we're all competing for eyeballs and pocketbooks.

Whether one ends up on the winning end of the sales equation comes down to a complex mix of factors that may include pricing, reputation, software brand, VAR-customer chemistry, the economy, and more.

So while I'm in agreement with the majority of your post, I still think the jury is out on whether it can be categorically said that buying leads sucks. If it seems to work for some companies, and they have seen an ROI on the marketing investment, who am I to argue them out of it?
