I wanna try new strings and rackets but have no idea where to start....?
i currently use head sonic 17 strings on my head Ti S2 at 55 and thats all i've ever had in the two years ive played besides the cheap recreational racket i had when i was first learning the game
My skill level is 3.0 - 3.5 that gets decent pace to fast pace, uses some topspin but not obsessed with it and like to use flat winners with my forehands and play mostly a counter punching baseline game
I also want to get a new racket but have no idea where to start for demoing from Tennis Warehouse
the head ti S2 is a very light racket (9.4 ounces) so i know if i wanna step up my game i should move up to some heavier sticks but im not sure what to try
Two rackets I will probably demo are the EXO3 95 rebel team (lite version of monfils)
and head youtek radical which i used briefly before and really enjoyed
are there any babolats that you reccomend for me my budget is up to $200 for the stick
wat strings are good for me?
Welcome to the world of finding the right racquet for your game. The answer to your question is quite simple, really. Just try stuff. For a starting point, since you really want to step up your game, you should probably only look at midsize or midplus frames. I'd also keep the weight above 11 oz. I'll usually recommend looking for the heaviest frame that you can handle without it becoming tiring. But preference in feel really is more important than that even. So what if you can handle it if you don't like to use it, right?
If you plan to demo from tenniswarehouse.com (I recommend it, great demo program there), you can take up to 4 frames at a time. Basically just pick a few that interest you, and give them a try. The first batch of demos will basically be whatever you feel like trying. While you use them, make note of what you liked and didn't like about the various frames. Good weight? Didn't like the balance (not maneuverable enough)? How was the string pattern: could you create enough spin? How about the flexibility: feel mushy or too stiff?
Take this feedback and use it in choosing the next round of frames to demo. You'll eventually be able to zero in on a set of specs that you seem to like. Once you know that, you can demo several frames that are very close to this set of specs, and pick the one you liked the best.
Hopefully the search won't take quite as long as that sounds. Perhaps you'll find a frame that you just love in the first or second set of demos. Congratulations. Or maybe it'll take much more time than that. Important thing is that you are happy with what you end up buying.
As for strings and tension, it's more trial-and-error. Curious to know if you'll like one string better than another? Try it out! And for tension, you can keep adjusting it slightly when you get it strung until you find a tension you like. Again, it's all a matter of reading the feedback you are getting from the frame. Need to deaden some power? String tighter. Want a little more spin? Get a thinner gauge or textured string. Breaking strings too fast? Look for something a little more durable, or consider going with a hybrid set.
