Racquet String Syn
What part of the string bed gives more spin on a tennis racquet?
So ive been stringing my racquet with luxilon alu rough as mains and with prince syn gut as the crosses. So me and my brother were arguing about it and he says its the mains and then we both agreed to both, but he leans more to mains and i lean more to crosses because of how you hit the ball with the racquet. The point is, is that we need an answer.
It comes more from the mains. Mains contribute to about 80% of the feel and characteristics of the racquet, although some think that the control comes more from the crosses (and possibly the comfort).
There really isn't too much of a debate on spin, though. It's all in the mains.
You say you lean towards crosses because of how you hit the ball, but if I pictured it that way I would think mains. Those are the ones that can brush up on the string and provide spin.
Now if this still doesn't settle the debate just do it yourself. Put your alu rough in the crosses and syn gut in the mains. The syn gut naturally doesn't provide as much spin, so if you get a decrease in spin then you know that it's the mains.
