Help/Tips for playing tennis?

I'm 17 and a senior in high school. I am playing on my schools tennis team this fall and we have already been practicing. most of the girls on the team have been playing tennis since last year or earlier but I haven't. i'm not horrible but I know I can definitely do better if I knew/learned the proper technique. Today we practiced serving. At first I served out of bounds but then i got better. I'd like to be able to hit the ball with more power so it goes faster but I don't know how to do that. Also any other tips you have on gripping the racket or anything else would be great!!

Hmm well I'm a sophmore and I play the #1 spot on my team (I've been playing since I was about 11).
To get more power on your serve make sure(depending on the serve) you're snapping your wrist, the way in which you do this is very important. Also try using your legs to put more power into it. Make sure your tosses are good, this is also very important you want them to be in front of you because if they go behind you or over your head you will lose power. There are a couple different types of serves (slice, topspin, flat, kick...etc.) you can watch tuturial videos that sort of explain and show you how to hit them.

As for forehands unless you are slicing it you should start low and end high by your shoulder making sure you catch it with your other hand, it should be a very fluid motion. If you want to slice it you start high and end low, however I do not suggest trying this until you've gotten a solid forehand.
The same goes for backhands. I generally use two hands unless there is no way of me getting to the ball and I must reach. I do use one hand back hands in volleys tho.
The power with your ground strokes mainly comes from practice and getting comfortable with hitting it. Just keep practicing!
Like I said earlier just watch tutorial videos, you can look them up on google or youtube.
Oh! &&foot work is another important part of tennis too! Work on drills for that! Sprinting and suicides are good. you can go to the USTA website for drills to improve that :)
Good luck!

Tennis Two-Handed Backhand Grip

what is the proper grip on a tennis racket?

There are 2. One is the forehand grip and that's where you pau you hand at the bottom of the grip and hold it from the top. The second one is the backhand grip and that is when you put two hands one on top of the other and hold it sideways. There is also a serving grip where you can wither use forehand or backhand grip except with one hand. The pros use a backhand grip for there serve. Volleys are a whole other thing but you can google that.

Hope this Helps.
