I'm going for a look that's girly, cute, and cool. I don't care for the comfort because I hardly have any books. EASY 2 AND 10 POINTS!!!!
I think that a Single Strip Bag look more girly because I never saw boys wearing those. But it's uncomfortable... Also, you look in fashion by wearing that Single Striped Bag. Good Luck!

Which do you recommend for bike riding (leisure and moderate riding), a messenger bag or a back pack?
I like the idea of a messenger bag because It seems less bulky and is probably won't contribute to a sweaty back like a backpack. I've heard that if you wear the messenger bag nice and high then it is more comfortable and won't swing around. Suggestions please!!
Definitely a backpack.
This is because a good backpack will be correctly positioned at all times and won't move about irritatingly. This is important for both your physical well being and for road safety.
Secondly, the weight is more evenly distributed to all the right places (as long as its a good bag) so you won't get neck or shoulder ache.
You can carry more, including all the little essential things like tools, puncture kit, lock etc in the many pockets and cubbies of the backpack.
You can opt to have a fluid bladder in the backpack - such as a Camelbak (although personally I don't go for this - I prefer to carry the heavy weight of water low down on my bike frame rather than high on my back).
Sweat retention is not an issue with a good backpack - good ones now come with a webbing stretcher made of a wicking material. This keeps an air space between you and the bag to allow continuous ventilation and provides further suspension to soften the impacts of the bag on bumpy tracks etc.
There are some great backpacks around. I use Jack Wolfskin - ergonomically excellent, indestructible, good ideas and clever bits built in, fully waterproof and great looking (as you'd expect of a German designer and manufacturer). I'm usually unaware that I'm wearing it even though its loaded with stuff! Look also at Karrimor, Camelbak, Vaude, Ortlieb etc.
