No u just are trying to hard, love yourself first & it will happen when time is right. You just came accross a woman who didn't obviously appreciate that you were working toward goals in yourlife. I ended up meeting my husband in church, no don't get me wrong i wasn't looking to meet someone in church it just happened. I had just got out of a bad realtionship & so did he. We talked a little in church I gave my number & when we talked later we realized we were going thru the same thing & he appreicated me being upfront witth him . One becuz I had kids & 2 incase my ex dropped by to drive him away i wanted to let him know this is how he is & why we aren't together. He appreiciated that & we are together 13 years & counting. You have to find someone to love u for u , someone that understands your goals & so on. She was one person. Watch when u find the right woamn she will regret it. His ex pouts everytime she see's me, but she treated him like crapp & now she has no stabliity in her life bcuz she still plays games witth men, sad but some people don't know how to treast people as i said, my ex's regret as well bcuz they thoguht i would be anything either, guess what I have my own business & a six bedroom 3 bath house & they still to this day ask am i still my my husband when they see my freinds & roll their eyes when my freind says yeah they are doing great. My oint is she'll see when you find that someone what she lost , so keep ya head up & stay a good person , don't let a she devil ruin your heart for someone else

Lonesome Sundown (his real name was Cornelius Green) had a little bit more Delta and Chicago blues in him than most of his Louisiana labelmates who recorded for producer J.D. Miller. Not that Sundown's sound isn't solidly in the so-called swamp blues tradition, but where Slim Harpo, Silas Hogan, and the other Excello artists worked from a laconic, Jimmy Reed-like shuffle, Sundown quickened the pace (at least for an Excello act) to a nastier level, and with Miller's reverb-laden production, ended up sounding a little bit like Jimmy Reed on speed, particularly on tracks like "Don't Go." Not that Lonesome Sundown couldn't do the patented Louisiana blues shuffle when he chose to, as his signature tune, "I'm a Mojo Man," shows, or even improve on the pattern, as with the loose-limbed and brilliant "I'm a Samplin' Man," but he seemed most at home doing more standard blues fare like the modern-sounding "My Home Is a Prison." This collection from Ace Records essentially reproduces the same set that is available from Excello Records, only with a different running order. Although Sundown made a comeback of sorts with a mid-'70s album from Alligator Records, these Excello sides are the ones you need. ~ Steve Leggett

MOJO DUB -- MID CITY GRILL -- 1/7/2008

Collection of Paintings and Exhibitions of Artist Rebecca Warren

Rebecca Warren's earliest artworks to come to wide public attention and it remain a touchstone for what has followed. I observed her install the piece in an exhibition, "Material Culture," which I co-curated with Michael Archer at the Hayward Gallery in London in 1997. The show considered different approaches to the object in British art of the past two decades. Even among such a deliberately heterodox assortment, Warren's approach commanded special notice. She had created the work in her bedroom over a period of three months. This biographical information is relevant since the work's contents and meanings are intimate and compacted. She started with a white plinth onto which she placed and replaced a selection of objects that were variously to hand. These included a jar containing a dead bee that a friend had brought to her. A scrunchie (an elastic band used to hold back hair) was stretched over the jar for safekeeping. Other items that came to rest on the plinth's surface include a shell, a shard of green glass, a pair of underpants, and a safety pin. Warren constructed a wooden frame as a sketch for a Perspex cover. She never made the cover but kept the indicative frame. On it rested a large white envelope over which she had stretched another pair of underpants, its crotch gently padded with fluff from a washing machine. The envelope itself was also padded out with slides of the artist's work.

Warren took pains to make her collection as simple as she could while avoiding the simply mundane. Her efforts were repeated in the exhibition installation, which took about a week. Warren clocked in daily at the gallery to spend hours tweaking the relative position of her sculptural ingredients. One sensed strongly that she was searching not for any formal or conceptual resolution to the piece but rather a conclusion of the opportunity available to work on it. This is not a trivial motive. It was clear that she took her role as a creative maker seriously and that the work would not be finished until the role was over, rather than the other way around.

Rebecca Warren's sculptures bring a whole new meaning to the term "Earth Mother". Her women are like humungous primal fertility totems for the urban tribes of today. Big boobs, and big butts, dread locks and mini-skirts: being a babe is just an Amazonian side-effect of their self-control and empowerment.

Rebecca Warren’s sculpture shows off the process as making. Emerging from the half-hewed mud, Warren’s work makes illicit suggestions of nude figures and entwined couples, reminiscent of mojo-lamps and head shop knick-knacks. Warren serves up a feminist brand of macho-ism with an unlikely combination of classical Rodin vs. Jeff Koons.

What to Do Next...

Warren's alter ego is a curiously powerful and positive proxy for a young woman artist working today to invoke. It carries certain resonances of Salvador Dalí's obsession with "putrefaction" in the mid-1920s; Warren's posture, like Dalí's, consciously mingles disdain and admiration for her artistic antecedents.
