Meaning Origin Poem
I need help on starting the first paragraph of an essay... Someone please help?

I need to explain the origin and meaning of my name which i found: MELISSA
Gender: Feminine

Usage: English, Greek Mythology, Ancient Greek

Other Scripts: Μελισσα (Ancient Greek)

Pronounced: me-LIS-a [key]

Means "bee" in Greek. This was the name of a nymph that cared for young Zeus in Greek mythology. It is also the name of the fairy who helps Rogero escape from the witch Alcina in Ludovico Ariosto's poem 'Orlando Furioso' (1516).

I need help on staring the first paragraph...PLEASE HELP would appreciate it thanx

A bee by any other name will buzz as sweet? Perhaps you might find more help in the homework help section, but consider these points:

1. What do you want your essay to say? What's the main point? That should be the "thesis" of your essay.
2. Perhaps you could discuss why your mother/father picked that name and then point out what they might not have known about the name when they picked it.
3. Perhaps you could start with the story of the fairy and then tell how that is your name as well, and maybe draw parallels on how you have helped others, thus earning your namesake.
4. Perhaps you could draw comparisons between you and a bee: do you buzz around busily? do you love honey?

The idea of the first paragraph is to capture the reader's attention. You can do that with an interesting quote, a unique concept or idea, or even some interesting facts. Then you can launch into the rest of your essay where you discuss a few points and then illustrate them with some examples.

Best of luck!

Tim Minchin : Angry (feet) - poem

Can someone explain the meaning of this Pablo Neruda poem?

Oh heartless lady, daughter of the sky,
Help me in this solitary hour
With your direct armed indifference
And your cold sense of oblivion.

A time complete as an ocean,
A wound confused as a new being
Encompass the stubborn root of my soul,
Biting the center of my security.

What a heavy throbbing beats in my heart
Like a wave made of all waves,
And my despairing head is raised
In an effort of leaping and of death.

There is something hostile trembling in my certitude,
Growing in the very origin of tears,
Like a harsh, clawing plant
Made of linked and bitter leaves.

What is it talking about? What is the main theme of the poem?
Thank you!~

Neruda gained fame as one of the foremost contemporary LOVE poets.

A quick read suggests to me that he's writing about a woman who is rebuffing him for some reason.

The rest is up to you!
