A tennis ball is thrown vertically upward with an initial velocity of +8.9m/s. a)What will the ball's?

velocity be when it returns to its starting point? Answer in units of m/s.
b)How long will the ball take to reach its starting point? Answer in units of s.

I think a is exactly what is given, cause you don't know any angle or any Vo total...

A) Therefore Vo = -8.9 m/s

Voy = 8.9 m/s
a = -9.8 m/s^2
V = 0
t=?

V = Vo +at
0 = 8.9 +(-9.8)(t)
t = .908163265 sec
That is time up, total time is 2x:

B) Ttotal = 1.81632653 sec

Director Peter Segal (50 FIRST DATES, ANGER MANAGEMENT) and comedian Adam Sandler are at it again in a fun remake of the 1974 classic, THE LONGEST YARD. In the role of Paul Wrecking Crewe, first immortalized by Burt Reynolds (who appears here as Nate Scarborough), Sandler plays an ex-football star whose career ended amidst allegations of point shaving. Fed up, he drunkenly steals his unfriendly wife's (an uncredited Courtney Cox) luxury car and drives it into a multi-car pileup. This lands Crewe in a cruel Texas state penitentiary. His only respite comes from Warden Hazen (James Cromwell) who wants Crewe to help lead his well-equipped prison-guard football team to the league championship. Crewe timorously agrees, suggesting the creation of an opposing team of convicts to the give the guards an easy tune-up before the season. To the ragtag inmates, this is the chance they've been waiting for, and they hustle to get their team together so they can exact some revenge on the harassing guards.In THE LONGEST YARD, Sandler steps out of the spotlight he enjoyed in films like BILLY MADISON and HAPPY GILMORE and is instead content to let his sizable cast of costars shine in the comedic light. Both the guard and the convict teams are infused with solid contributions from a swath of entertaining personalities: ex-football stars Michael Irvin, Bill Romanowski and Brian Bosworth; pro wrestlers Bill Goldberg and Stone-Cold Steve Austin; ESPN anchors Chris Berman and Dan Patrick; and famed rapper Nelly. However, it is Chris Rock, as Crewe's friend Caretaker, whose scenes never fail to steal the show, providing some of the movie's most memorable laughs.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A rally in tennis is a sequence of shots within a point. A rally starts with serve and return of the serve, and a sequence of shots until the point is won by one of the players. Tennis is a sport usually played between two players (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a racquet that is strung to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net into the opponents court. The modern game of tennis originated in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century as lawn tennis which has heavy connections to various field/lawn games as well as to the ancient game of real tennis. After its creation, tennis spread throughout the upperclass Englishspeaking population before spreading around the world. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Wimbledon - Another All-Williams’ Final

For the fourth time in a Wimbledon final, the Williams sisters will have to face each other for the title, the eight-time in a Grand Slam competition. Venus and Serena Williams defeated both Russians Dinara Safina and Elena Dementieva respectively in semifinals on Thursday at Centre Court. Venus Williams, who is the defending champion at Wimbledon, defeated the No. 1 of the World Dinara Safina on a match that seemed too easy for the American, since she won 6-1 and 6-0 and lasted only 51 minutes. With a very solid game, Venus smashed Safina with his good serve and nearly no errors in the match. Safina, who is still looking for the first Grand Slam title of her career, lost all her hopes as she was crashed terribly by Venus Williams. Everything went wrong for her today; she committed 16 unforced errors and just 6 winners, making only 20 points, while Venus had 16 winner shots and just one unforced error. Venus stated that she is very excited to be on the final against her sister for the fourth time, and that she never thought it was going to be so easy for her after she saw the match of her sister Serena against Dementieva which, on the contrary, was very dramatic. Nevertheless, she said that the most difficult part will be to face her sister in the final on Saturday. Venus is trying to become, along with Steffi Graff, the only women to win Wimbledon in three consecutive years; that is why is so important for her. On the other hand, Serena had a pretty tough match today against Dementieva when both of them had a hard time playing each other, but at the end the winner was Serena 6-7 (4), 7-5, 8-6. The match, that was the longest semifinal for women’s singles at Wimbledon since 1969, lasted two hours and 49 minutes. Serena with her experience and way of playing was very consistent in the moments that she needed to be consistent. On the other hand, for Dementieva her goal was to win the game, she even pushed Serena to the limit and almost eliminated her; she played what is considered one of the best matches of her career and was very close to move to her first Wimbledon final. She expressed after the match that maybe she had to take some more risks to win. "It's definitely one of my more dramatic victories, for sure," Serena said. "Elena played so well, and we gave the crowd a wonderful match," she said. "It was really, really tough." "I thought ace, it's my serve, if I can just stay calm. I was just trying to think positive." The final between the Williams sisters it’s going to be very interesting since both of them are fighting for the title but at the same time they care for each other. Their style of playing is very different and that would be the attractive aspect of the match; we would have to wait and see what happens but we wish the best for both of them.

  • Prabakaran V:

    I think it doesn't really matter because it just depends on who they were playing against and if they dominated or not. But if you were looking at they're skill and they're actual stroke and stuff, it wouldn't be fair at all.

    And i think your picks for the greatest player are very accurate and what I would pick. But look out for Nadal. He is rising and might become even better than Federer (and he is still pretty young)
