Why does my comp turn on when I plug in the power cord?
When I plug the ac cord into the wall my comp turns on halfway (fans & lights start up but system fails too boot). Usually the only way to fix it is to leave the ac cable unplugged for a few hours; It tends to work after that. Is the power supply failing? Does it sound like a Hardware problem?
This often happens after a crash and usually after being unplugged for about 30 seconds you can plug it back in and boot normally. If your having trouble booting normally afterwards you may want to try a system restore from safe-mode. I don't think it's a hardware issue.

can i fix my christmas tree lights with an extension cord?
The lights arent for my tree, the circuit is only a couple feet long. I was wondering if i could repair it with an extension cord, not a surge protector with a million outlets but like a cord one end with the 2 holes and the other end with the 2 prong things. i would plug the cord into a wall outlet, plug the lights into the cord, and plug the other end of the lights into another wall outlet. would this work? if it dosent, its no big deal and i dont want to spend hours finding a bulb or go out and buy anything.
from the way you described this you would be running the cord from one outlet to another outlet. don't do it. lights aren't that expensive. but burning your house down could run into some money. for a couple of dollars you can usually get at least a 6 foot string of lights at target or wal-mart
