Head Tennis Hats
i'm making my brother this halloween costume and...?
my 8 year old brother decided he wanted to be link from the legend of zelda and i already know what to get. heres a pic of the character: http://ahsgameclub.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/link.jpg
-oversized green t-shirt
-1 yard of green material [hat]
-1 yard of brown material [for belt]
-white turtle neck
-white pants or leggings
-elastic [so the hat could stay on his head]
but i was wondering what i should do about his shoes.
should he just wear his shoes? [they are just plain tennis shoes and idk if he has any others]
should make some leg warmer type of things and sew them to the pants and cover his shoes with them?
help??
It depends on how detailed you and your brother want the costume. Sounds like it's going to be a pretty detailed costume already so folks who know anything about the character may care less about his shoes not matching the character. Most folks aren't going to even consider the footwear and wouldn't know enough about the character to tell you if anything is off about the costume.
Plain tennis shoes or sneakers just means that much less you have to worry about in making the costume. But if you want to go whole hog with the leg warmers, you may want to make sure that they either leave the soles of his shoes free or you sew some kind of grip into them if they completely cover the shoes. We're talking a little bit of safety here, you don't want to run the risk of his sliding in the costume. If the leg warmers merely cover the tops of his shoes but leave the soles free to make contact with the ground then the thing you might worry about is the possibility of them slipping under the soles. Something that isn't that big a deal if it's very hard to pull the shoes out of the leg warmers or if you tape one half of a velcro fastener to the front and back of the shoes and sew the other half into the leg warmer. Say taping the hooked part of the fastener to the shoes, shaving off some of the hooks to give you more area on the velcro to tape it to the shoes with.
