but it means more something like:

My vet told me my 2 month german shepherd puppy has cryptorchid? Could she be wrong?

Which means only one testicle dropped and the other didn't drop at all. He is only 2 months old! I thought they didn't drop till 4-6 months? I got this puppy from a breeder and we planned on breeding him later in the future. Obviously we can't if he has cryptorchid. But should i wait a few months and see what happens? I have a gut feeling that the vet was wrong. What do you think?

Actually, she should have said "unilateral cryptorchid", as against "bilateral cryptorchid" for a dog that has retained both testicles above the ring in the tube to the scrotum. There hasn't been enough proper research on the causes. Willis (1963) and Burns & Fraser (1966) are the main writers of papers about it. The main research I'm aware of was done by Härtl (1938), using 57 Boxer litters which averaged 23% cryptorchid males, with litters having as many as 36%.

And [our2joy] is without breeding ethics - no-one said that unilateral cryptorchids are infertile. But they SHOULDN'T be bred from, and their parents should be treated with considerable suspicion, as it looks as though the problem is due to at least 2 sets of recessives, although there could be environmental factors as well.

With anything genetic, the ethical rules are
#1: "DON'T breed from anything that displays a genetuc disorder."
#2: "If it is due to recessives, DON'T breed from the parents, either, except in desperation - and in that case, do it once, and make sure each potential buyer is fully aware of the problem being in their pup's genes."

In my breed, about 1% of males are unilateral cryptorchids. But I'm aware of one breeder (she aims for a banned coat colour, so obviously it isn't in HER nature/ethics(?) to follow the "rules" worked out by experienced experts!) who is happy to have 30% of her males being cryptorchids of one kind or the other!

Both testicles SHOULD descend before birth. but definitely they need to be present before the vet does the first inspection when the litter is 6-8 weeks old.
Although cryptorchids CAN be shown in our Baby classes (4<6 months old), any judge here who detects a cryptorchid in the ring from 6 months old has to report it to our kennel club, for it to be de-registered.

No doubt, but there are breeders and there are "breeders", and The KC (UK), the AKC and the CKC treat them all equally, checking only (1) "Are both alleged-parents in the same Breed Register?" and (2) "Was the right fee paid?" before registering litters.
I wonder whether this alleged-breeder actually has a RECORD of pups he/she sells going on to gain Excellent gradings, training qualifications, hip-&-elbow pass certificates?

I think you should:
(a) learn that mere OPINIONS are a waste of time. What counts is knowledge based on FACTS and EXPERIENCE.
(b) accept that the vet is almost certain to be right BUT that there is still time for it to descend - the vet said what IS, right now, without attempting to predict the future;
(c) check out the printed & signed Guarantee his breeder provided (if there isn't one, he came from a "breeder", not a breeder);
(d) carry on doing all the things a 2 months old pup needs in the way of feeding, vaccinations, familiarisation with movements & reflections & scents & sights & sounds & textures; followed by all the familiarisation & on-leash exploring a pup needs to do from 10 weeks onwards in the safe parts of your district, with you praising him every time he acts brave & curious; followed by YOU being in a weekly training club class (forget pet-shop play-groups) as of when Pup is 18-22 weeks old, so that YOU learn the basics of being an effective trainer and Pup learns to pay attention regardless of what other dogs & people are doing;
(e) join a GSD club that does whatever kind of showing & training you are interested in, and participate in its events as of when Pup is 3 months old - if his 2nd testicle descends, you will NEED those activities & experience as part of proving him breed-worthy, and if it doesn't descend you can nevertheless work well as a team in training competitions;
(f) accept that it is VERY likely that other defects (character? courage? gait? shape? size?) are as likely to disqualify him from stud-work as is the possibility that he will remain a cryptorchid.
(g) realise that a dog that doesn't compete successfully is NOT going to attract any owner of a decent bit.ch. KC registration is just the START - it is not a virtue in itself.
