Which form of pro auto racing demands a higher level of driver skill; NASCAR or Formula One?

For the 10 years prior to this year I would have to say NASCAR.

Now that the F1 cars no longer have traction control, launch control and all the other driver aids that they have had over the past decade (meaning that the cars are finally back in the drivers hands), I think Montoya's comments are no longer valid since he has never driven an F1 car that didn't have all that crap.

Stock cars are heavier, don't turn accelerate of brake as well as an F1 car, making them more of a handful to drive. They also have almost no aerodynamic grip and rely almost entirely on mechanical grip.

But an F1 car being open wheel car means that there is less room for error. Make contact with another car or a barrier and you are likely to break the car. Also, there are very few banked corners on an F1 course. Tracks are not level and you have to deal with going up hill and then down hill on different parts of the track. Add hairpin corners and the other tight and twisting turns of most F1 caliber road courses and you have a completely different challenge that you do on most NASCAR tracks (even the road courses that NASCAR does race on).

I don't think it's a matter of which one takes more skill, but that each requires different skills. They are two very different types of racing that each present their own unique sets of challenges to drivers.
