Discontinued Wilson Tennis Racquets
Why where all Wilson K factor six one's discontinued?
Well i can obviously understand the marketing for the BLX that Roger currently uses, but is that the only reason why they completely discontinued the K factor six-one series? I still see plenty of K factors sold on tennis gear websites (K blade, Surge, Kobra), but none ever carrying the old six one's.
Just a curiosity if the six one tour was a more "faulty" racquet, I didn't get too into tennis until now and back when my friend had the six one tour it looked like a nice racquet that the current me would love to try and find out. Friends, and reviews online did say it was like hitting with a plank or board or something, so yeah this made me wonder if this is the sole or 2nd reason to moving completely to blx.
Does anyone whom keeps up with more tennis gear news inform me on this?
i think the difference of the new and old release of famous wilson racquet series are often insignificant (probably just new paint job and special minor ingredients - if any - added to the racquet materials). if possible, borrow from your friends the following racquets: prostaff 6.1, ncode n six.one tour, k factor k six.one tour and blx six.one tour. put same stringing configuration on each racquet. then try each of them one at a time. see if you can notice the difference. do not take other's opinion on this, take yours only.
i think the strategy behind marketing six.one tour series probably is to collect the old ones from stores (if any) and repaint them, then put them back into display (with the new price tag of course, haha). if they are out of old ones then they make new ones, using same mold and apply new paint job.
this particular series is too famous to receive major modification, and the name of the series itself is enough to make the sales (one of the reasons you met only a few six.one tours -or even none- left at shops is that they sell like candies).
on the contrary, most game improvements series often require modifications, even creating new molds for the so-called "FX technology" (take the ncode ntour vs k factor ktour team FX for example) which requires new and complex mold for the frame. this won't allow the manufacturer collect older series to do just paint job back at the factory, they need to let the older release stay at the shops and actually make new ones with the new look.
just my two cents.
hope this helps
