Baby Converse Tennis Shoes
How to develop my own sense of style?
I really enjoy the whole 80's thing. I am ADDICTED to like skinny jeans, high top tennis shoes, especially Converse all stars, I love Vans, and like baby tees and chains and suspenders and stuff. I mean, I'm not like every other girl at my school wearing Aeropostale and Abercrombie, but any other way I can enhance MY style?
Hey girl, I commend you on trying to be YOU while so many around you are just trying to be "normal" and do what's most widely accepted and done.
Something I've always tried to do, no matter what age I've been, to keep my own style that transcends time and fads to some extent at least is:
1) Shop at a wide variety of stores, not just at the mall, but particularly (when u can) in edgy, young, alternative stores on the street. A lot of times you'll find these around colleges.
2) Try to walk through a store with an open mind, like you're a baby seeing clothes for the first time and go to whatever speaks to you on a very instinctive level. Mix and match from a lot of different styles and eras sometimes. After all, the idea is to create YOUR OWN style, something that isn't done by anyone else and only you can truly appreciate and glow in it.
3) Explore and evolve your creativity as much as possible as a person in all areas of your life. Something it took me a long time to realize is that you don't have to be able to draw a perfect horse or play the violin to be an artist. In the book "Walden" Henry Thoreau writes "It is something to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so make a few objects beautiful. It is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look." So, if you can just learn each moment to let go of perception, see through the eyes of a baby and listen to your intuition that always knows what is best for you, then you will be the glorious creative being that you are!
