String tension recommended for the Babolat Xcel Power 1.30mm?
I am an advanced player, strong at the baseline and was recommended this string for my type of game but not sure about the tension. If you have this string, what is your tension and what type of player are you? Thank you.
Choosing the appropriate string tension takes some time and experimentation. Even if you do find somebody with a similar play style, they still might prefer something that you wouldn't. So you need to find the best tension for yourself, and I'm here to help you with that.
To start with, you'll probably want to just go with whatever tension you used on your previous string. If you don't know what that was, then get it strung in the middle of the range. Then you need to assess how the frame plays with that setup. It will give you hints as to what you need to do when you string it next. If you can't control the ball as well as usual, then you need to string tighter. If the frame feels like a board, or just seems to lack some bounce, then string looser. When you get it strung this time, go up or down 2 lbs, depending on how you thought the frame played.
Then you just kinda repeat the process. But after the first time, make all changes in 1 lb increments. If you use this process, it should only take two or three string jobs to find a good tension.
You should always be analyzing the performance of your frame, even after finding a good tension. As you improve, your preferences might change. If you start to think the racquet feels a little off, try a slightly different tension next time.
